17 days in...
I have been avoiding added sugars for 17 days now. I have found that I love whole fruit now more than ever. :) I am trying to not eat more than 2 whole fruits a day - I don't want to get an overdose of fructose from fruit! But seriously - apples, grapes, bananas, oranges - you can't get better than God's best sugar!
The biggest benefit that I have noticed most is the amazing lack of brain chatter I have about food. Before 2018 (the year of no treats), I was constantly fighting with my "inner pig." That is completely gone now. The answer is always no. And I can't even describe how much freedom that has given me. When the brain chatter disappeared, so did the negative self talk! I feel good! I know I haven't made any "bad" food choices, so there's nothing to yell at myself about.
Physically, I've only lost about a pound (I'm at 159.1). I was up 10 pounds from September to New Years...gross, I know. I wish the fat was just melting off - but I know that I am healthier and my body is thanking me for quitting sugar despite the slow weight loss. I don't feel bloated anymore. I haven't been gassy or felt bloated since day 1. I call that a win.
I am disappointed that I haven't immediately had more natural energy - but hopefully that benefit will come with time. I've had some Crystal Light energy a few times over the last 17 days to get me through. I'm hoping that I won't feel the need for that crutch soon. It does not bring on sugar cravings, so that's good.
It has NOT been hard to say no to treats. I made the decision to not eat them, and that is that. I won't say that I haven't craved sugar - I have - but I can usually get rid of the craving with fruit or gum. I'm also hoping that I won't need to have gum as a crutch soon, too.
I feel full faster with real food. That has been nice.
I love that I don't have to count calories or worry about macros or intermittent fasting or any of the other dumb weight loss plans I have tried to follow in the past. I can eat when I'm hungry, and stop when I'm full. No sugar added.
Here's to the next 348 days.
